Nigeria’s 2027 presidential race is officially underway, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is seeking another term. Campaigns began on August 19, 2026, with the election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

But an important question remains: Should Nigerians give Tinubu another four years?

Tinubu’s administration has taken bold economic steps, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy and major foreign-exchange reforms. The government and its supporters argue that these measures were necessary to strengthen public finances, attract investment and put the economy on a more sustainable path.

However, the other side of the argument cannot be ignored. For many Nigerians, the reforms have come with painful consequences. High living costs, reduced purchasing power and persistent insecurity remain major concerns. Reuters reports that the reforms have been welcomed by investors but have also contributed to significant public hardship.

So, should Tinubu be reconsidered?

Perhaps the answer should not be based on emotions, party loyalty or social media arguments. Nigerians should examine what has actually changed, what has not, and what the next four years could realistically look like.

If Tinubu is asking for another term, voters have every right to ask him for a clear scorecard, measurable results and a convincing plan for the remaining challenges.

Ultimately, 2027 should not simply be about whether Nigerians like or dislike Tinubu.

It should be about whether his record deserves another opportunity.

The decision belongs to the Nigerian people.
