The political tension surrounding the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election has escalated heavily into a fierce war of words on social media. Omoyele Sowore, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), had launched a scathing counter-attack against Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The bitter online clash follows an interview on News Central TV where Sowore initially criticized the leadership and competence of the singer’s uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke. The statement prompted a swift and defensive response from Davido, who publicly referred to the activist-politician as “arindin” (a Yoruba term for fool).
Refusing to back down, Sowore took to his official social media handles to explicitly redirect the insult back toward the Adeleke family. The activist questioned the academic history of the governor, asserting that the true definition of the slur belongs to the politician himself.
“The real arindin is your uncle, who had to go back and obtain the equivalent of a GED after he had already served as a Nigerian Senator,” Sowore stated in his response.
Moving beyond personal jabs, the AAC leader accused the Adeleke family of executing deep political compromises during the 2023 presidential election cycle. He alleged that the governor offered covert allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a desperate bid to shield his family’s business and political interests. According to Sowore, this political maneuvering was designed to let the family “continue treating Osun State as a private estate to bankroll (their) extravagant lifestyles”.
Sowore framed the entire Adeleke dynasty as fundamental pieces of a wider, failing Nigerian governance framework. He fiercely categorized the family as members of a “rotten political establishment” that remains inherently “oppressive, corrupt, incompetent, and entitled” while systematically thriving off the socioeconomic hardships endured by everyday citizens.
Concluding his statement with a stern warning ahead of the weekend’s governorship polls, Sowore declared that public tolerance for the political status quo is nearing its breaking point. “The tables will turn,” he warned emphatically. “The Nigerian people will not endure this forever”.
