The Fragility of Political Alliances: Dr. Datti Ahmed’s Analysis:
Today (18 April 2026) , I listened to Senator Datti Ahmed, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, on Television and his words carried deep insight.
He argued that the ADC is doomed to collapse because it is an alliance of imperfect politicians. According to him, the ADC lacks a figure like Muhammadu Buhari. He explained that if Atiku Abubakar were to win the presidential ticket of the ADC, Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi would have issues with that. Conversely, if Obi or Amaechi were to win, Atiku would have a problem with it.
Dr. Datti further observed that the ADC does not have an Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a leader he described as focused, resourced, and determined. Nor does it have a President Goodluck Jonathan, who once entered into a deal with Northern leaders to serve only one term but faced serious challenges when he reneged.
This analysis is both sensible and practical, highlighting the inherent instability of alliances built on conflicting ambitions rather than shared vision. Only those unwilling to look beyond the surface would dismiss the depth of Dr. Datti’s perspective.
Conclusion: Political alliances without unity of purpose or strong leadership are bound to fracture under the weight of competing interests. Dr. Datti’s reflections serve as a reminder that true political strength lies not in numbers but in coherence, vision, and trust.
