A police officer attached to Hotoro Division in Kano was allegedly shot dead during a clash between rival thugs, barely 24 hours after the Kano Police Command raised an alarm over the influx of _yan-daba_ into the state capital. The officer was just weeks away from retirement.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, had on Tuesday, May 19, warned of an incursion by thugs wielding dangerous weapons around the metropolis.

Eyewitnesses in Hotoro identified the deceased as Inspector Sani S.O., who was deployed alongside colleagues to disperse the fighting groups.

“He was shot by one of the _yan-daba_ with a locally made gun,” Umaru Iliya, an eyewitness, told our reporter.

Kano Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident and said it is under investigation. “Details will be made available to the general public after investigations are concluded,” he said.

Kano has recently seen a resurgence of youth thuggery in areas including Fagge, Abattoir, Koki, and Hotoro, raising fresh concerns about security in the state capital
