ABUJA, August 1, 2026 – The Board of Trustees of the Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has constituted a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the association for one year pending the conduct of fresh elections.
The decision followed extensive consultations and a meeting of select stakeholders, where participants unanimously endorsed the establishment of an interim leadership to revive the association, strengthen its structures, reconnect members, and lay the foundation for a credible electoral process.
According to a statement signed by Elder Reuben Okala on behalf of the Board of Trustees, the newly constituted committee comprises Eneojo Herbert Idakwo as Acting President, Juliet Akoje as Vice President, Yusuf Akogu as Secretary General, and Hass Akodih Emmanuel as Mobilization Officer/Public Relations Officer.
The Board said the committee has been mandated to immediately begin the process of repositioning the association by fostering unity among members, expanding membership, reviewing FORIJA’s operational framework where necessary, engaging relevant stakeholders, and organising a free, fair, and credible election at the end of its one-year tenure.
It expressed confidence that the experience and commitment of the appointed officers would provide the leadership needed to restore the association’s relevance and reposition it as a respected professional body dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism and contributing to the development of Igala land.
The Board also appealed to all members of FORIJA, media professionals of Igala extraction, and other stakeholders to give the Caretaker Committee their full cooperation and support to ensure the successful execution of its mandate.
It reaffirmed its commitment to building a united, vibrant, and professionally driven association that will protect the interests of its members while advancing responsible journalism and supporting the development of the Igala nation
