The world may come to an end in the next half-century, but not through the causes we have always imagined would bring about the end of the world.
It may not be through a power-drunk President of one of the great powers pressing the nuclear button in a fit of madness, or by mistake, or at the slightest provocation. It may not be through a state like North Korea releasing its nuclear weapons to retaliate against the United States of America.
It will certainly not be through natural disasters — earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or tsunamis from the five oceans engulfing the world. And it will surely not be through the other familiar scenarios we often fear, not even the prophetic apocalypse predicted in the Book of Revelation in the Holy Bible.
According to experts, the end is more likely to come through technology itself: superintelligent Artificial Intelligence.
This is Artificial Intelligence that will surpass human capability and capacity in every respect, reaching its apogee. Systems, robotics, and humanoids possessing extraordinary intelligence, able to think, learn, and act far beyond human control.The greatest danger lies in this: there is still no unified person, entity, or effective global law that adequately regulates how we develop, manage, and control superintelligent AI.
Conclusion:
While humanity has prepared for wars, natural disasters, and prophecies, we have paid little attention to the creation we are building with our own hands. If superintelligence is not aligned with human values and governed by strong, enforceable global regulation, it may become the very instrument that ends the world we seek to preserve.
The question, therefore, is not whether AI will become more powerful than us, but whether we will be wise enough to control it before it controls us.
