Nigeria is already entering the political season ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election, with the country preparing for another major decision about its future.
According to the “Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)” (https://reference-url-citation.invalid/0), the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027. Campaigns for presidential candidates are set to begin on August 19, 2026.
With President Bola Ahmed Tinubu seeking another term and major opposition figures also positioning themselves for the race, Nigerians are likely to see intense competition and political realignment in the months ahead. INEC has already published the particulars of several presidential candidates, including Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
But beyond the politicians and campaign rallies, the biggest question belongs to the Nigerian people:
What kind of Nigeria do we want after 2027?
For many voters, the issues will go beyond party loyalty—jobs, security, food prices, electricity, education, healthcare and economic opportunity will matter.
The 2027 election will not simply be about choosing a president.
