Resisting the Glorification of Criminality
Kudos to the Nigeria Police Force for carrying out such a daring and intelligence-driven rescue operation to free this hapless family from marauding, blood-curdling, and vicious criminals. No country is entirely free from the demonic criminality we witness in our nation, and we must resist the urge to celebrate such acts or weaponize them simply to get back at the government or to paint it in bad light for cheap political sympathy and votes.
This was evident in the case of the family of the sister of the former Minister of Power, Adelabu, who were kidnapped from their home in Ibadan, Oyo State last week. When we do so, we inadvertently play into the hands of terrorists whose tactics are to create panic and fear among the populace, giving the false impression that government is weak and that they are the alternative. This is falsehood in all ramifications. Blood-thirsty terrorists, demonic bandits, depraved kidnappers, and mindless criminals can never be the alternative.
In conclusion, our collective responsibility is to stand firm against criminality, support legitimate institutions of justice, and refuse to allow fear or propaganda to undermine our unity and resilience as a people.
