Yes, I vividly recalled when the bond was forged between Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his co-exiled Nigerians and members of the pro- democracy group, NADECO like Dr. Fayemi, Chief Enaharo, Dr. Kuti, General Akinrinade, etc – members of the NADECO in Washington, DC in 1993 or there about. At the local level their hosts – Egbe Isokan Yoruba with Profs. Aluko, Gbadegesin, Adeboye and others of Howard University, Washington, DC. During this political struggle to free Nigeria from the brutal, violent and deadly Abacha military regime, there was the formation of The Alliance of Yoruba Organizations and Clubs in Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.
Note: Since the return of the Democratic rule In 1999, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was elected the Governor of Lagos State, served two terms and in 2023, again, he was elected to the highest political position in Nigeria- the Presidency.
Also, I recalled that as the President of Egbe Omo Owo in DMV areas, we held a Memorial Service for the late Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin at the International House of Prayers for All People on Rhode Island Avenue NE, Washington, DC, on October 3, 1997.
As a result, I invited the members of the NADECO in exile in the Washington Capital Area, Chief Anthony Enaharo led the members of the group to the memorial service, where he made some remarks.
Just recalling and sharing my knowledge of history about the members of the NADECO Group in the Washington, DC Area.
