DAY WORLD
In this paper, I will differentiate between several states of mind: our daily state of mind, our minds when we sleep and dream, our minds when we have visions, and our minds when we have out-of-body or near-death experiences (the ultimate state of mind, unified spirit, is beyond intellectual categories, so I will not go there).
Daily, you find yourself in our world of space, time, matter, and energy. You feel like you are in your body and other people are in their bodies; there is a boundary between you and other people because you can clearly see that you are in your body and they are in their bodies; you are over here, and they are over there; you do not know what they are thinking, and they do not know what you are thinking; to reach them you have to traverse space and time.
In our world, we are separated from each other and from the entire universe. Each of us is doing what he has to do to survive as a biological organism. The individual is mostly selfish in the sense that he places his interests ahead of other people’s interests; what will make him survive is what concerns him most, and not what makes other people survive.
Other people are of secondary interest to the individual, and at best he cooperates with other people for their mutual interests and survival, but when push comes to shove, he does what makes him survive even if it is at the expense of other people.
This is the human animal; some people apparently recognize that they are more than biological organisms, hence tend to work for other people’s survival as well as their own survival.
A DREAM
At night, you go to sleep and dream. In my dream, I see a world that still looks like my day world, except that dreams are usually centered around an event, something the person wants to experience and learn from.
I do not understand how, while asleep, the individual’s mind, aka brain, is able to picture the entire world and have him and other people interact in it. I understand that other animals also dream.
I have read loads of material on dreaming but still do not understand it. Despite what neuroscientists cavalierly say about it, if you give it serious thought, our ability to dream is a mysterious thing.
Consider this dream. For one weekend day, I went on a long walk for almost five hours. During the last leg of the walk, I was so tired that I could hardly walk. If I had my phone and wallet, I would probably have called a cab to take me home. But when I go on walks in the woods, I deliberately leave all signs of civilization and simply go to commune with nature.
So, I walked on and managed to get home.
The moment I entered my apartment, I flopped on the couch in the living room and was immediately asleep and had the following dream.
In the dream, my mother, Theresa Ugoji Osuji, was driving a rather expensive Mercedes-Benz car, and I was sitting on the passenger side of the front seat. She arrived at a Walmart store, stopped and parked in the parking lot, and said that she was going in to pick up a few things. She left and went into the store, leaving me in the car.
Later, I felt that she was taking too long and got out of the car to stretch my legs. I looked at the passenger-side front tire and wheel, and the wheel was bent, and the tire had lost air. What a bummer, I said to myself. But instead of seeking a way to fix the problem, I asked a lady going into the store to tell my mother that her car needs fixing and for her to come and fix it. Shortly thereafter, she came and took one look at the problem and walked away.
I saw her walking with a bunch of other women, and they walked into the mist of time. She looked like a 24-year-old graduate student and was having a great discussion with the other graduate students she was walking away with. I woke up from the dream and typed it.
This dream is easy to interpret, although, like all dream interpretations, each interpretation is at a level the dreamer can manage. The first level of interpretation is that my mother left me to live her own life with other young people. That is good for her. She is not my slave and should not live to serve my needs. She certainly should not live to fix a car that I am in that is broken; it is for me to fix it.
Symbolically, the luxurious car is my body. She is telling me that she gave me a car, a body, one that has loads of medical problems, and that she tried her best to enable me to survive when I was a kid (she practically took me to hospitals every week during my first few years). She is saying that she gave me her best, a good education, how many Africans train their children to doctorate level, and that she has to go live her own life and that it is now time for me to go live my own life, to fix my problems and not depend on her to come running and fixing my problems for me.
She said, in effect, Tom, you are now a big boy and can take care of your problems; go do so and stop being a dependent boy who expects his parents to always rescue him (mother, father, grandfather, and grandmother were actively involved in my survival…if I was a typical African whose parents did not care for, given my inherited mitochondrial disorder, COX, I would have died in childhood). Symbolically, she told me to become independent and that it is only in being independent that one survives in our world.
Our world is a place where the sons of God come to seem separated from their father (as the prodigal son did) and from each other, and each of us must do what he has to do to survive. So, I am to do what I have to do to survive and not depend on my hardworking parents for my survival. Our world is a dog-eat-dog place, and you are on your own.
Parents try to instill in their children the need to be autonomous so that they grow up into independent adults who can fend for themselves.
The facts at hand are that one Saturday afternoon, I took a long walk and was tired, and that sense of weakness took me back to my childhood weakness, and I wanted my mother to help me, as she used to do when I was a child, and she came into my dream to say that she has done enough and that it is now time for me to take care of myself.
(I assume that my mind does my dreaming. How did my mind produce that dream? How do our minds produce elaborate dreams? Do other people enter our dreams or do our minds simply make them up? I do not know.)
Our world is a place of separation, so mother separated from me by walking away from me; as it was, she abandoned me to my devices; she figuratively told me to swim or drown. This is a realistic message because it tells me to do what I have to do to cope with the realities of our world of separated selves; on earth, we are not in a state of union; thus, we do not permanently love each other.
A VISION
I had read A Course in Miracles for a while and decided that it contains some useful psychological and spiritual truths, but decided that the language is poetic, verse, and unnecessarily convoluted, hifalutin, and confusing. If it took me so many years to understand what it is saying, how are ordinary people going to understand it? I threw the book away and moved on with my life.
One day, I was returning from work, and somehow the book and its alleged source, Jesus Christ, entered my mind. I asked, how come this Jesus boy did not write his book in simple prose, such as Ernest Hemingway’s prose? If he had wanted ordinary people to understand it, he would have made it as simple as possible. Instead, he gave us a doctoral dissertation on spiritual psychology that very few have actually understood. I thereafter felt angry at Jesus. I cursed him out and called him a bloody schizophrenic writing gibberish and calling it a path to spirituality.
Years ago, I had assessed Jesus as having histrionic personality disorder, a person who is always seeking attention from other people in a dramatic manner, including getting himself killed to get perpetual attention as the son of God and the savior of the world.
If there is God, he created all of us, so we are all his sons. If there is resurrection, we shall all resurrect, so what is the big deal with that boy’s resurrection? Give me a break, so I moved on from the Jesus cult.
I got home, and, as usual, I went to my desktop computer to check my email. I sat in front of the computer and turned it on, but before I could start reading my email, the room went totally dark, as dark as charcoal, and I could not even see where the computer was. It was around 6 PM, and I live in a temperate world where during the summer it does not get dark until after 9 PM. What the hell is going on?
I got up and began walking towards the door where the light switch was to turn on the light in the room. In the middle of the room, my awareness shifted; I was now in a different environment. I was now at Santa Monica or Venice Beach, California; I used to go to both when I was a college student in Los Angless. I was gamboling with my youngest son, Kelechi. We were having fun, and he said, Dad, look over there; that man looks strange. I looked, and a man was sitting on a chair with a beach table in front of him and a beach umbrella over his head. He looked as white as the sun’s light. He was attired in a Catholic priest’s robes. I said to my son: Let us go check the dude out. We walked towards him. You could see through his body, for though it is in form, it is pure light form, not made of flesh, matter.
As we got closer, I knew who he was; He was the old boy himself. He was Jesus Christ. I looked at him and at the beach table, and there was a book on it, and I leaned forward, and it was A Course in Miracles, and he appeared to be reading it.
I tried to make small talk by saying that I had a copy of that book and could not understand what the hell it was talking about it. He ignored me. I said something else. And he ignored me.
(The scene reminded me of the episode in the Bible when the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery to him, asking him what to do to her: to stone her as their Old Testament, the laws of Moses, required, or to forgive her, as his own New Testament law required. If he said to forgive her, they would accuse him of disobeying their laws and arrest him and try him. Aware of the trap they set for him, he ignored them and kept writing on the ground. Eventually, he did say, ” Let him who has not sinned be the first to stone the woman and the people, being all sinners, walked away, and he told the woman that we are all sinners and, as such, do not have the right to accuse her of sin, our fellow sinner of being a sinner and asked her to go home and stop sinning.”)
I do not like to be ignored. I have a ginormous ego and humongous pride; if you ignore me, I am likely to ask you who the hell you think that you are to ignore me. Moreover, I am from a priestly family and was told by my uncle, then high priest when I was a child, that our religion is as good as Christianity, and that we must figure out a way to modernize it and stop aping Jewish or Arab religions.
I was brought up to seek the truth and not to tolerate being ignored. I felt irritated that the old boy ignored me and decided to walk away from him and his book.
As I took a step to move away from him, he finally looked up from the book and said a few words to us. He pointed to the book on the table and said that it is useful for some people, and that it will help some lost sheep find their way to their owner, God; take from it what you can; go write the books you came to write, and do not waste your time criticizing it. There are many paths to our father; go establish your own path, and some people will find it useful. He said it, and the vision ended, and I was now aware that I was in the middle of my room.
I went back to my computer and typed the vision. A vision is where the universe takes you out of your normal environment and shows you something that you have to learn from. A vision is designed for your spiritual training, not necessarily for other people.
The universe, our collective mind, if you like, the Holy Spirit showed me a vision that told me to go do what I came to do: write books on metaphysics and spiritual psychology and live what I know is the truth without worrying about other people’s books on metaphysics.
I am an encyclopedia on Christian theology, Gnosticism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and other religions, but they are not my path; my path is to figure out what my path is through my writing, and that path will help people like me struggling to find a spiritual path not given to them by Jews, Arabs, Hindus, or Chinese. I synthesize these religions in my writing.
A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE
I am living in Eagle River, a suburb of Anchorage, Alaska. I live in a house with a German educational psychologist. She does psychological evaluations referred to her by teachers. She would assess the students, and if they have issues, she diagnoses them (say, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Autism, the various learning disorders, school anxiety, separation anxiety, and so on; in some cases, if the child is not learning at age-appropriate levels, she does an IQ test on him or her and then designs an individual education plan and gives it to classroom teachers and special education teachers on what to do for the child to make sure that he or she is benefiting from school.
Occasionally, she would ask me a question such as: Do you believe that there are IQ differences between the races? I would say that she is an expert on that subject and ask her to tell me. She would say that the IQ of native kids (Eskimos… Yupik, Inuit, Athabascan, Aleut, Haida) she had evaluated is the same as their white counterparts. She asserts that there are no IQ differences between the races.
Nevertheless, the native kids whose IQs were similar to white kids generally do not do well at school and are likely going to drop out of high school before graduating from it. We would then try to figure out why intelligent Native kids drop out of school.
I taught at the nearby University and probably encountered only a handful native kids in my classes; one of them was a mix of white Russian and Native; she was probably my best student. She graduated and went for higher studies.
Anyway, there is no difference between white and native Indians’ intelligence, so how come native kids do not do well at American schools and in white society? We tried to understand the factors at work here. I would talk about cultural issues and resentment by native kids for what happened to them, their lands taken by white folks, and they are dominated. All our talks did not fix the problem.
My mother died, and I became depressed (dysthymia, because the depression had a situational cause, my mother’s death). My German friend suggested I go see a medical doctor for antidepressant medications, such as Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft. Generally, I do not like taking medications, so I ignored her suggestion. But she knew that I was depressed and kind of took it on herself to protect me from harming myself.
On weekends, she would come downstairs and talk to me (her bedroom was upstairs and mine was on the first floor). When I am in my room, she comes to my room, sits by the computer by my bed, maybe playing a computer game, and keeps talking to me. I knew what she was doing. She kept me engaged to prevent me from giving up on life.
One Sunday morning, around 10 AM, I was lying on my bed and looking up. She knocked, and I said come in, and she did, turned on the computer, and started playing a solitary card game on it. She asked me all sorts of questions to engage me in small talk, hence, to cheer me up.
In addition to being a psychologist, she is a nurse, so she understood how to provide patient care. Apparently, she saw me as her patient and was doing her bit to keep me alive.
Well, this Sunday morning, we were talking; she did most of the talking, actually, and I was lying on my bed facing the ceiling.
Suddenly, I found myself out of my body. I was now by the ceiling, looking at my body on the bed and seeing the woman in my room, doing something on the computer.
I looked up, and it was pitch dark. In that dark ambiance there was a point of light, not larger than a pinhead. I was attracted to it and began literally flying towards it. As I got nearer and nearer to it, everything became light.
At the point of my entering the place of light forms, I saw my mother, looking like the above Jesus in my vision. Her body was made of pure light, and I could look through it. She asked me questions without moving her mouth; it was like I was reading her mind and responding to what was in it. She held my left hand, as she used to do on Sundays when we went to church. She told me that I was free to stay in her present world but asked whether it was a clever idea to leave my children unhelped. She talked about how she and my father trained all four of their sons through college, and they were working-class people. She ended by saying that if she were me, she would not leave my children.
I stood there looking at her and her beautiful, light world and pondering what to do. Finally, I decided to go back and take care of my children. The moment I said so, I was instantly in my body on the bed and felt like a heavy sack of rocks now weighed me down.
Well, I was back in my body, and shortly EMT folks were in the room because the German lady said that as she talked to me, she noted that there was no movement from me, and she ascertained that I was not doing well and thought that I probably had a heart attack and called 911, and they came to load my probable dead body and take it to the morgue. I woke up before they could complete their task.
The lady asked what happened, and I told her about the obvious Near-Death Experience. She is an atheist and did not believe what I said and asked me to go see a neurologist, and that I probably have some kind of brain tumor that led to that supposed dream I just told her I had.
I kept quiet because one does not argue with a person who has not had an NDE or OBE experience. If you had told me about it before I had it, I would not have believed you.
The effect of the NDE is a reduction in one’s fearfulness and, in some cases, elimination of fear of death.
As of now, I accept that I will die and my body will dissolve into the various elements that formed it, and those decay to protons, neutrons, quarks, and electrons, and all of them dissolve into nothing from which they were conjured out.
I know that there is life after we die, but it is not what we think that it is. Upon death, we travel to the world of light forms and thereafter, if we are good and moral people, to what folks call heaven, a place of oneness, where we are one with God. Evil people do not even get to the world of light forms; they stay in the dark place before it and reincarnate to our world to pay a price for their evil behaviors.
I cannot say anything meaningful about heaven. At any rate, my goal here is to differentiate between dreams, visions, and near-death experiences, not to pontificate on heaven and its God.
Oh, last month, in August, I had surgery. Before the surgery, the anesthesiologist said, “I am going to place this mask over your nose, and you will pass out and recover after the surgery, he did, and I passed out.”
Something interesting happened. I was now outside my body, witnessing the three medical doctors and three nurses in the room doing their thing. I did not identify with the body on the surgical table and was not even curious about what was happening to it, so occasionally I was outside the room and then returned; I was having a dream or OBE where I saw medical doctors operating on a body that I did not call my body.
Eventually, I was rolled into the post-operation room, and I woke up still dreaming. I was rolled into the ward and thereafter recovered and was discharged.
This dream tells me that we are not our bodies and that there is a part of us that dreams and can see something happening to our bodies.
Please do not ask me to explain the part of us that knows that it is not our bodies because I can not describe it.
I am not trying to convince you of anything, nor do I really care what your opinion on the subject is; I am just describing my experiences, and that is all I can do.
And don’t go talking about neuroscience and the brain because I can teach you all you need to know about brain science. Brain science is obviously a must-study; nevertheless, it does not explain anything about the truth of the human spirit.
I have given you a glimpse of four states of being: our day world, our dream world, our visions, and our after-death world.
The ultimate truth of who we are, spirit, I leave it to each individual to figure out for himself.
DISCUSSION
Can you experience what I described above? You can but make sure that you live a loving and moral life. You must love yourself, love other people, and work for our common good. You must not take what is not yours. You must not be corrupt as most Africans are.
You must live what Baruch Spinoza called a virtuous life. I know that it is difficult for folks to believe that our lives are moral. But there is morality in the universe.
We look around and see sociopaths and psychopaths ruling the world, stealing and killing people, and we are tempted to believe that the world is an amoral place, and for us to join the criminals we see all around us.
It is up to you whether to love or not. I can tell you something for certain. There is karma. When we die, we review what we did during our incarnation on Earth. It is as if everything we did, good or bad, was written on a scroll; Hinduism calls it the Akashic Record, and it flashes through our minds’ eyes, and we see it all.
Each of us decides whether we did the right thing or not (every evil behavior is recorded as Samsara). If you were moral, you would proceed to the world of light forms. Evil people, which includes most Africans, immediately reincarnate on earth.
(I did away with political correctness long ago and say it as I see it: Africans are the most evil breed of humanity; they sold their siblings to Arabs and Europeans and do not feel guilty about doing so, and currently steal everything in their world and do not work their black buttocks off to help their people; they specialize in blaming white men for the poverty their amoral lives place their people in.)
Well, if you were evil, you would return to earth to pay a price for what you did. If you were saintly, you would stay in the world of light forms.
Only a few people proceed to the state of oneness with God, heaven, and experience the peace and joy of their eternal home.
Therefore, before you do all the evil things you are tempted to do on earth, think about the consequences.
We all have choices about what to do: to love or not to love, to help each other or not to; to cheat or serve all people; whichever choice we make, we receive the consequences for it.
CONCLUSION
Around 8 PM on September 23, 2026, I felt an urge to write an essay describing several states of being. I went to my computer, sat there, and wrote what came to my mind. I typed for two hours.
If you are honest with yourself, you know that what I wrote is true, but if you choose to deceive yourself and thus justify the astonishing evil lifestyle I see in Africans, go ahead and do so. Keep on living as mere animals while pretending that you are a big man and masquerading as an empty suit while your fellow Africans live in abject poverty.
African youth gather in North Africa and try to use rickety boats to cross the Mediterranean Sea and go obtain menial jobs in Europe just so they are alive.
The garbage that rule Africa does not care for their people’s welfare. Seventy years after Africans obtained Independence from Europeans, they have regressed; the infrastructure given to them by white men has collapsed, and yet the idiots keep blaming white men for their fate and not their thieving behavior.
I must confess that at some point I was so ashamed of Africans that I did not identify with them and did not want to see them in my world. It seemed to me that they were cursed people; nothing good seemed to come out of Africa.
Then it occurred to me that there are good Africans, such as my mother. Therefore, one cannot condemn all Africans as thieves. We must seek ways to save Africans before they self-destroy.
We must help them to plan their families and limit the number of children per family to two, work hard and obtain money, and use the money to train their children and stop abandoning them.
God, as we speak, Hausa- Fulani abandon their children, leave them homeless, and beg for food on the streets, Almajiri.
What kind of people do such heartless things? What kind of people heartlessly kill their fellow Africans because of the religion of an Arab Pedophile who had sex with a nine-year-old Aisha!
These people are corrupt and are beneath contempt. Give me the humble Jesus Christ, Buddha, and other absolutely loving human beings as my role model.
Cheers,
Ozodi Thomas Osuji
