He Died In 1987. His Enemies Searched Everywhere For ONE Dirty Secret. They Found NOTHING.
When Chief Obafemi Awolowo died in 1987, something strange happened.
Everybody was waiting.
His enemies were waiting for one gist. One love-child. One concubine story. One girl to come out and say “Awo gave me belle.”
Because let’s be honest, the man had POWERFUL enemies.
The same people who called him a devil for starving Biafra during the Civil War were searching his entire life history for just ONE sexual scandal to blackmail him.
They searched from his youth till old age.
THEY FOUND NOTHING. ZERO.
Not one woman. Not one love-child. Not one side-chick.
In a country where leaders were known for their wayward lifestyle, Awolowo was sexually upright. His enemies were completely impotent. They could not touch him on that.
THE LONDON RED LIGHT STORY HE TOLD HIMSELF
Awo himself told this story.
When he went to Britain as a young student, curiosity led him to the Red Light district in London. You know the place – where women openly sell sex for a fee.
He entered. He sat down.
Then suddenly, his conscience hit him like thunder.
He asked himself: “Julius, what am I doing here? What if police raid this place now and I am arrested? How will I explain this to my people back home in Nigeria?”
That self-judgement saved him. He stood up, walked out, and NEVER visited such a place again for the rest of his life.
That was Awolowo. He had the opportunity, but he chose discipline.
HE DIDN’T JUST DISCIPLINE HIMSELF, HE DISCIPLINED HIS CABINET
Awo didn’t just avoid immoral women, he avoided immoral FRIENDS.
He refused to hobnob with sexually loose colleagues.
There is a story that will shock you.
When Queen Elizabeth II visited Nigeria, Awolowo as Premier of the Western Region was to introduce his Ministers and their wives to the Queen.
One Minister came with his girlfriend instead of his wife!
Awolowo looked at him, glared, and deliberately SKIPPED him. He refused to introduce him to the Queen.
His reason? Simple.
“If you have two or three wives, I will respect you and recognize them. That is our culture. But I will NEVER give honour to a side-chick, a girlfriend, a call-girl. Never!”
If he couldn’t stop you from committing adultery in secret, he would NEVER encourage you in public. He disgraced adulterous colleagues openly!
For Awolowo, there was only ONE woman – his beloved wife, HID Awolowo. He never said polygamy is a sin, but he personally chose monogamy and was faithful to his wife UNTIL DEATH.
No scandal. No story. No stain.
NOW COMPARE…
I won’t mention his name, but we all know a very famous General and former Head of State who had a child outside wedlock and denied the child for 40 YEARS, until Supreme Court and DNA test forced him to accept his own blood after 60 years of lying!
Many civilian and military leaders have sexual histories so rotten you cannot even put them in print.
Against this dark background of immoral leaders, Awolowo shines like a bright light.
He is the ONLY leader worthy of emulation by Nigerian youths today.
My question to you:
In today’s Nigeria, can we still find a leader like Awolowo? A leader with ZERO sex scandal from youth to old age?
