Peter Obi wants to be the president of Nigeria. He, like all Nigerians, is entitled to have such ambition. In addition to the desire to be the president, one must, however, have goals and objectives that one wants to accomplish for Nigeria.
Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has made it crystal clear that he resents the fact that Nigerians are mainly consumers of what other countries produce and that he wants to transform the people from consumers to producers.
To become producers means that he has to industrialize the country. The man wants to industrialize the country, get it to produce what its people consume, instead of having Nigerians always import just about everything they need to survive.
This desire to transform the country into a producer country and wean it away from merely consuming what other countries produce is an exceptionally good reason to support and vote for Peter Obi. He has a fierce and urgent desire to transform the Nigerian economy into a producing economy.
Nigeria does not have to be just an oil-extracting place where Western countries come and extract oil, pay royalties to the Nigerian government, and monthly the governors gather at Abuja and share the monthly income from oil, and, of course, pocket most of it, and the country remains poor.
If the country is industrialized many people will be producing wealth for the country and the people’s incomes will improve and with improved incomes, they will be more able to pay personal income taxes (and the other forms of taxes, such as sales taxes, property taxes, business taxers and value added taxes) that generates revenue for the country, money with which it meets its obligations. Nigeria needs to construct infrastructure (such as schools, roads, railways, seaports, airports, power such as electricity, etc.).
Peter Obi’s desire to industrialize the country, in my opinion, is the most distinguishing aspect of his presidential aspiration, and for that reason he ought to be elected the next president of Nigeria.
His antecedent behavior also recommends him. He was a two-term governor of Anambra State. He balanced that state’s budgets, and there is no evidence that he stole a penny from the state’s public funds.
If you have evidence that he stole the people’s money, please provide us with the information; otherwise, this observer concludes that Mr. Obi had integrity and probity and took care of the people’s funds. He managed the state’s money well and made sure that budgeted funds were spent as budgeted, with no redirecting of funds to his personal use.
Mr. Obi appears to have independent wealth so that he does not have to steal from the public treasury to be able to have the resources that he needs to live on. He has enough money to live well and looks to be devoting his time and energy to doing what serves the public interest.
Some of the other aspirants to the presidency appear to be focused on seeking ways to steal money to become rich and really do not have goals and objectives that they want to accomplish for the country.
Mr. Obi appears the most able to reduce or eliminate the insecurity that is ravaging the country. He appears to have the commanding presence to be able to tell his military and police chiefs to do something, and they do it (stealing politicians are generally disregarded by their military because they understand that they are in it for the money they can get out of the office).
Mr. Obi appears to be the most sincere and qualified candidate for the presidency of the country. It is now time for the people to look beyond politicians’ ethnic backgrounds and focus only on what they plan to do for the country and what their past behaviors show that they can do.
Mr. Obi’s past behaviors show that he has what it takes to run the country efficiently and productively; for that reason, I urge people to vote for him.
There is really no good reason why, after sixty-six years of self-governance, Nigeria is still in dire straits and has shown the world that it is incapable of governing itself. I am sure that Nigerians are aware that most people outside Nigeria no longer want to hear the same tired and old excuses why the black man does not seem capable of governing himself well.
In fact, there is talk afoot in the West asking Westerners to reconsider and return to Africa and seize power and govern Africans well; they would justify this return to colonialism because the consequences of Africans’ inability to govern themselves and increasing population are Africans washing ashore in the West seeking asylum status. That is, Africans’ inability to do the right thing is negatively affecting Europeans, and if that is the case, they have every right to intervene and right the situation that is producing the sea wave of economic refugees washing ashore in Europe.
Asian countries that obtained independence from Europe at the same time as Nigeria are now operating at almost Western levels in their economies.
There is no reason why Nigeria should not be like Asian countries in generating outstanding economic performance. Mr. Obi plans to accomplish this much-needed task.
