There’s a popular saying: *”You can’t eat your cake and still have it.”*
It means this: every choice has a consequence. Once you consume something, it’s gone. You cannot enjoy it twice.
Dear Nigerian Voter, this is the trap set for us every election cycle.
*How Poverty Is Being Weaponized*
Let’s call it what it is.
Poverty is being weaponized in Nigeria. Politicians deliberately keep systems broken — no jobs, no power, no social support — so that by election time, citizens are desperate.
Then they bring out the “cake”:
– *₦2,000 and a bag of rice*
– *A wrapper, cap, and “stomach infrastructure”*
– *₦5,000 “transport fare”* on election day
They know you are hungry. They know your children need fees. They know you have no other option _today_.
This is not generosity. This is strategy. Make the people poor, then buy them cheap.
*The Hard Truth: You Still Have A Choice*
But here is the hard truth we must face.
We have a choice to reject being treated like *chickens whose sense of judgment diminishes at the sight of grains*.
Yes, the grain is sweet. Yes, you are hungry. But the moment you peck at it, you forget the trap around it.
The moment you collect that money and sell your vote, you have eaten your cake. And you cannot complain when there is no cake left for the next 4 years.
*What You’re Trading Your Vote For*
That ₦5,000 will finish in 3 days. But what you are trading away will affect you for 4 years:
1. *Good Roads* – So your business can move and your family can travel safely
2. *Jobs for Youths* – So graduates are not forced to “hustle” or leave the country
3. *Stable Electricity* – So hospitals can work and SMEs can grow
4. *Affordable Healthcare* – So one sickness does not destroy a family
5. *Quality Education & Security* – So your children have a future
No bag of rice can build a road. No Ankara can employ 10 million youths. No politician’s gift can keep ELECTRICITY on.
When we sell our votes, we elect people who see us as customers, not citizens. And because they “bought” power, they must “sell” contracts and abandon projects to recover their money.
You ate the cake on Saturday. Now you will be hungry for 4 years.
*Before You Collect That “Grain”, Ask Yourself:*
1. *After I eat this, what remains?* Will my community have water?
2. *Who gains more in 4 years — me or the politician?*
3. *Am I voting for my stomach today, or for my children’s tomorrow?*

Dear voter, your PVC is not a trading card. It is a 4-year contract for your life.
Don’t let poverty force you into slavery. Don’t let desperation make you forget your power.
*Reject poverty politics. Reject grains with traps.*
Vote for competence. Vote for character. Vote for track record. Vote for the person who will build the bakery, not just share one slice of cake.
The power is in your hand. Use it wisely.
Because after election day, the only thing left will be the consequences of the choice you made.
