Professor Anthony Ejiofor is an accomplished scholar, international researcher, and respected community leader. He earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology through a joint program between the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the University of California, Riverside, where he served as a World Health Organization Fellow. His academic pedigree is reinforced by prestigious fellowships and research affiliations with the African Biosciences Network (ABN), the British National Council for Microbiology (BNCM), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany, the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), and the National Science and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC).
With nearly four decades of distinguished teaching and research experience, Professor Ejiofor has made significant contributions across industrial microbiology and biotechnology, general microbiology, immunology and serology, medical microbiology, microbial genetics, and parasitology. His professional journey has spanned Nigeria, Germany, Canada, Israel, Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom, Italy, and the United States. He has published extensively in reputable scientific journals and retired as a full Professor of Microbiology at Tennessee State University, Nashville, after serving as Visiting Professor at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He currently leads Bastion Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit serving vulnerable populations in Middle Tennessee and southeastern Nigeria.
Beyond academia, Professor Ejiofor is deeply engaged in community leadership. He served as Executive Director and later Chairman of the Executive Board of the World Igbo Congress. He is the founding Vice President of the Anambra State Association, USA, and currently chairs the Joint Body’s Global Igbo Values Reorientation Committee. He is also the founding Chairman of the Umunya Professionals Association, a forward-looking organization that unites professionals from Umunya, Anambra State, to advance education, mentorship, community service, and cultural preservation.
Professor Ejiofor’s contributions have earned him national recognition, including listings in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers (2000 and 2010) and honorary declarations from the cities of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Detroit, Michigan.
A visionary and ethical leader, he is widely respected for strategic planning, organizational management, financial integrity, and excellent public relations. He is married to Nonye Ejiofor, a financial consultant, and they are blessed with three children.
