Obol Okoi Obono-Obla was born on the 20 October 1966 in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
He attended St Andrews Primary School, Ishibori Ogoja; Mary Knoll College, Okuku, Yala Local Government Area; Federal School of Arts and Science (Now Federal Science College) Ogoja; University of Jos; and Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos and the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom (2018-2022).
Obono-Obla was called to the Nigerian Bar 34 years ago.
Obono-Obla holds an LLM (master degree) in International Business Law (Merit Award).
The then President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Member, Presidential Tribunal on African Petroleum Plc, 2002-2003.
He was gubernatorial Candidate under the platform of National Conscience Party in Cross River State in the 2003 general election. He was Senatorial Aspirant in 2022 for APC for its ticket to contest 2023 senatorial election for Cross River Central Senatorial District.
President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him member of the Governing Board of the National Park Service of Nigeria in August, 2005 and served till 2007 when the Board was dissolved by late President Musa Yaradua.
In June 2009, the then General Muhammadu Buhari appointed him Interim National Legal Adviser of his the defunct Congress for Progressives Change, CPC; he was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the CPC and its Legal Adviser from June 2009 till January 2011.
He was elected Deputy National Secretary of the CPC in January 2012 and held the position till July 2013 when the CPC merged with the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigerian Peoples Party(ANPP) to form the All Progressives Congress.
Obono-Obla was the Secretary /Member of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) Merger/Alliance Committee.
He was also the Co-Secretary of the Joint Inter Party Merger Committee (the umbrella joint party committee of the opposition political parties) that negotiated the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013.
He was appointed Special Assistant on Prosecution to the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, November 2015- April 2016.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Federal Ministry of Justice, April 2016-29 May 2019.
He has 35 years of solid legal practice in Civil Litigation, Human Rights Litigation, Constitutional Law litigation, Aviation, Election Petition litigation & Commercial law.
He has made numerous appearances in the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, States and Election Petitions tribunals while he was in private law practice.
He was also the Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property vested with the power to investigate the assets of public officers in Nigeria who have corruptly enrich themselves
Obono-Obla was honored as a Distinguished Visitor by the Urban Morgan for Human Rights, College of Law, University of Cincinnati, Ohio on the 12th day of September, 1997 for his contribution to the promotion of Human Rights in Nigeria.
Obono-Obla is a fellow of the International Visitors Leadership programed of the Government of the United States of America (1997) (now known as Nelson Mandela African Fellowship).
Obono-Obla is a Fellow of Law 457 of the prestigious Salzburg Global Seminars, Austria.
Obono-Obla is the Author of All Progressives Change: The Making of a Change Agent (2017).
He is co-author of No More Secrets: Understanding the Concept of Freedom of Information in Nigeria (2019).
Obono-Obla is the co-Author of Power Struggles & Corruption-Deconsolidating Democracy in Nigeria, 2014.
He is also the Author of Nigeria My Country: Thoughts and Perspectives of a Concerned Citizen (Essays in Defence of Democracy, Rules o Law, and Freedom of Speech) (2024).
Obono-Obla was the Acting Secretary Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee February 29, 2016 till date.
The Committee of the Federal Government of Nigeria is entrusted with the responsibility to oversee the speedy and expedition hearing of criminal cases and the due application of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Obono-Obla is Co-Founder and Principal Counsel/Head of the Law Firm of Obono, Obono & Associates, Legal Practitioners and Consultants with branches in Abuja, Collabra and Ugep, Cross River State.
Obono-Obla is a Traditional Ruler in his capacity as the Obol Kepon (Head of Patrilineal Clan) and Village Head of Letampankom Kingdom in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross Rive State since 2009.

The African Free Press Magazine has awarded and honored Chief Okoi Obono-Obla on 6th November 2018 with a Distinguished Anti-Corruption Ambassador award in recognition of his outstanding and invaluable contributions to the Anti- Corruption Crusade in Nigeria/Africa, development of the Nigerian Nation and as a Distinguished Anti-Corruption Ambassador.
The United Nigeria Movement for Good Governance & Sustainable Democracy-Award of Recognition as an outstanding Bridge Builder of the Niger Delta and Pragmatic Leadership (20th September, 2017).
National Crime Watch Award 2017 awarded Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his immense effort in making sure corrupt government officials are prosecuted.

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association among others.
