A highly respected journalist, author, historian, and public affairs commentator, Chief Teniola has devoted more than five decades to documenting Nigeria’s political history and promoting informed public discourse. His distinguished career spans both journalism and public service, earning him a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most credible and insightful voices on governance and national affairs.
Born in Idanre, Ondo State, Chief Teniola began his journalism career in 1972 when he left the security of the civil service to join the Nigerian Tribune under the legendary Lateef Jakande. His career later took him to the Nigerian Herald before he became the pioneer State Editor of The Punch in Ibadan, where he covered many of the nation’s defining political events.
A respected leader within the journalism profession, he served as Western State Secretary and later National Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). He also served with distinction as Director of Press in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, bringing together his deep understanding of both the media and public administration.
Chief Teniola is the author of notable works including A Right Honourable Gentleman, The Life and Times of Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and This House Has Fallen. Through his books and numerous newspaper columns, he continues to preserve Nigeria’s political history while providing thoughtful analysis of governance, democracy, and national development.
