*Saddening.*
In Nigeria today, our laws are not blind. They have eyes. And they only see two classes of people: *The Connected, and The Condemned.*
The law is twisted, stretched, and rewritten to favor the rich — especially the political class. Then it is sharpened into a dagger and used to punish the poor for the same “crime” of being Nigerian.
This is the same political class that has turned millions of Nigerians into brainless onlookers. They lie to us publicly. Shamelessly. Like untrained children caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
And the most painful part? The cookie is our future.
They insult our intelligence on TV, on stage, and on TikTok. They deny video evidence. They deny audio evidence. They deny common sense.
And what do we do?
We clap. We defend. We argue for them online.
For a bag of rice. For a 5k transport. For a plate of jollof and a cap with their face on it.
We have allowed our tomorrow to be exchanged for grains today. We are mortgaging our own future, and the future of our unborn children, on the altar of stomach politics.
Let’s do a simple thought experiment:
*Imagine if an ordinary Nigerian — a welder in Sango, a trader in Lafenwa, a student in LASU — was captured in clear, viral video footage telling his friends to “go and kill members of my neighbor’s family.”*
No editing. No “AI”. Just his face. His voice. His words.
Tell me the truth:
Would that ordinary citizen be invited for “tea”, make a denial, and be released the same day?
Or would he be paraded before the press by 6pm? Would his house be raided by midnight? Would his family be in hiding by morning?
That is the question.
Because in Nigeria, justice is not about what you did.
*Justice is about who you are.*
If you have title, convoy, and connection, the law will “invite you for clarification.”
If you have no name, the law will “deal with you decisively to serve as a deterrent.”
This is not governance. This is organized impunity.
And until we, the people, stop hailing our oppressors and start holding them to the same standard we hold ourselves, nothing will change.
A nation cannot grow where truth is negotiable and the law has a price tag.
Nigeria — we deserve better.
We deserve a government of responsible adults, not arrogant liars.
A government of systems, not slogans.
A government where the law is the same for the man in agbada and the man in overalls.
The time to stop being onlookers is now.
