What is happening to students of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria, that four years after graduation they cannot be admitted to the Nigerian Law School for the mandatory one‑year professional training? I know a particular young man who graduated from the Faculty of Law in 2022 and, until now, has been unable to attend Law School. This situation exemplifies how bad governance impacts our young people, leaving them frustrated and vulnerable to anti‑social tendencies.
The authorities of the University of Calabar, under the current administration, should urgently address this vexed issue, which has become a blot on the reputation of the institution. A university’s credibility is measured not only by the quality of education it provides but also by the opportunities it ensures for its graduates.
Conclusion: The delay in admitting law graduates into the Nigerian Law School is unacceptable. It is time for the University of Calabar and relevant authorities to act decisively, restore confidence, and safeguard the future of these young professionals.
