Human beings are a miracle

So, last night, I lay on my couch, thinking. Who am I? Empirical evidence says that I am an animal, just like other animals, born, grow, age and will die. My body is like the meat that folks buy from grocery stores and eat. So, I am then meat, eh? But this meat can think and through its thinking understand the universe and devise technologies to manipulate the universe. This is what I call a miracle. How did an animal, meat, become intelligent to understand its world?

Human beings are the miracles they project to their gods.

How exactly did the universe of space, time and matter, a place composed of a bunch of subatomic particles (electrons, neutrons, protons), atoms, molecules, matter and energy transform some matter and energy to thinking beings?

Think about it; our bodies and animals’ bodies and even trees and rocks are composed of nearly the same elements (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, copper, zinc, sulfur, chlorine, sodium, phosphor etc.) but in us these otherwise mindless elements think about their nature.

It is an amazing world, I say.

I like to retain the sense of mystery that human beings seem to me as and not just reduce them to what pure science tells me that they are, matter, and energy. I am entitled to the illusion of wanting human beings to be more than matter and energy, am I not?
