Are human beings cooperative or competitive?

Last night, I watched an interview of an Australian biologist and psychiatrist, Dr. Jeremy Griffith. He authored a book on human nature called Freedom.

To him we can use biology to demonstrate that at root people are cooperative and not merely competitive. In the interview he went into details explaining the nature of the human nervous system and thinking. He established a movement called the world transformation movement to teach his biology-based view that we can return to cooperation before we destroy ourselves with our insane competition. Is he correct? I went to bed around 3 AM and woke up at 6 AM and had the below thoughts on his teaching.

Is it true that human beings were originally cooperative before Charles Darwin’s teaching on competition as the basis of evolution (Herbert Spencer, in his Ethics, added the notion that the strong survive and the weak die out) corrupted them?

In human sexual act men ejaculate thousands of spermatozoa into the female vagina and those compete and only one or a few get to the ovum to fertilize it; thus, there is competition in nature.

It is true that children cannot survive unless loved and cared for by their mothers and parents, but they are cared for mostly for, as Edward Wilson and Richard Dawkins, in their social biology pointed out, the survival of the selfish genes of the parents; parents see themselves surviving death through their children. Therefore, the fact that parents care for their children cannot be said to be the origin of cooperative behavior in people. Indeed, in families’ children are competing for everything.

Thus, it seems to me that our human nature and animals’ nature are based on competition for the survival of the fittest.

Whereas pure empiricism leads me to agree with Darwin that animals, people included, live competitive existence, the world is the opposite of our spiritual origin; in unified spirit, aka God and his heaven we were not in bodies and did cooperate and lived forever and ever, and still do.

We established the universe of space, time and matter to experience the opposite of heaven’s love and union. Science is correct in stating that our phenomenal world is based on the opposite of love and cooperation and is based on competition.

American primitive capitalists are correct in their belief that we are competitive and that we live in a dog-eat-dog world.

However, pure competition, as America is about to find out, sets up a society of winners and losers, billionaires and poor homeless people; the result is the coming war in the USA that would lead to the fall of the last nature-based empire of masters and slaves.

Future empires will return to effort to attain our nature in spirit, cooperation, on earth hence emphasis on love and cooperation.

Dr. Griffith tried to use biology to make an argument for love and cooperation; I do not think that he succeeded. Our bodies are the product of evolution; even cells in our bodies are competing, and in cancer eat each other!

I, on the other hand, posit that we have a spiritual nature that is based on love and that the earth exists for us to try to approximate our loving nature in spirit while we live in body.

To appreciate my reasoning, please buy and read some of my books, especially Connected lives.
