U.S. Affairs

This afternoon I took a glance at CNN to catch up on what is going on in the good old USA. They were reporting that a twenty eight year old black man, Ismaaiyl Brinsley walked to a parked police car, at Brooklyn, New York and point blank shot the two police officers, Wenjin Liu and Raphael Ramos in it. He then fled the crime scene and other police men chased him into the subway and he allegedly shot himself and died. “The New York Daily News, first to identify Brinsley, posted an image of a silver handgun from his Instagram…

The Caged Obama Is Free, Free At Last.

Written by
The Barack Hussein Obama we elected in 2008/2009 is now the president of United States and the nation will be better for it. It took 6+ years to free him from the shackles that held him but it is worth the wait. To many people Obama was held hostage by the Republican Party (RP), but nothing is further from the truth. He was a captive of his own Democratic Party (DP); the so-called moderate Democrats (MD). The DP was so afraid of losing these moderates that they tied Obama's hands. He could not pursue immigration policies because these MD's would…
In 2002, just before George Bush embarked on his preemptive war against Iraq, I noticed that American newspapers lined up with him, saying something to the effect that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. There was a drumbeat of support for Bush. Congress hastily passed a resolution authorizing Bush to attack Iraq preemptively to destroy nonexistent weapons of mass destruction. Iraq was attacked and no weapons of mass destruction were discovered. During the drumbeat of support for Bush’s war I was shocked at how America’s media without evidence supported their president’s war efforts. I wrote a couple of articles…

Why white policemen kill black folks

Written by
It is obvious enough and if you have lived in the USA for any substantial length of time you have observed it. White police men do not respect black folks and treat them in the most inhumane manner. If the black folks so poorly treated act out they are most likely to be arrested, handcuffed, placed in the back seats of police cars and transported to the police station or county jail, booked and locked up. If they are young black boys the white police officers seem invested in humiliating them, showing them who have power. They would push them…
I like discussing immigration issues and why people move as a part of daily conversations in the diaspora. However, this article is about Obama and his action on immigration announced on Thursday, November 20, 2014. I want to see it that sometimes it is not easy to explain and understand the concept of change. Change can be simple or complex, straightforward or multifaceted or diversified. Indeed, change is a function of pluralism – a way of using multiple perspectives to address challenges which humans face in different contexts of life. One leaves one’s home to seek for another home far…
Yesterday (November 20, 2014), Obama made a bold move on immigration matters: allowing illegal immigrants who have been in the USA for five or more years, have children in the country and have not committed crimes to apply for work permit so that they can work, openly, and apply for proper legal status (green card) and go to the back of the line. With a stroke of his presidential pen, Obama has given an estimated five million persons the right to work in the USA. This is by any ones estimation a courageous move; the man has finally acted presidential.…
Forbes Magazine wrote as we shall highlight that President Barack Obama is the best economic president in modern time. Yet the GOP won midterm elections for the wrong reasons built on fear of Ebola, ISIS, and Congressional Gridlock politics. It is defying reason as Obama leads in the theatre of American politics and use of Executive Action like most past presidents on immigration about to happen. The USA Midterm Elections that took place on November 4, 2014 was a further check on President Barack Obama on how the Republicans are interpreting his leadership and calculating to shift his approaches with…
I love the American Democracy better than I love the British version. The Nigerian version makes me wants to throw up because it is so hopeless. Nigerians only embrace Democracy because it is the popular thing to do. We lack the maturity, the discipline and the leadership and the followership and above all the rule of Law to make it work like it does in America or Great Britain or some of the European countries or countries like Canada, Australia, India and South Africa. The Scottish people have been an integral part of the United Kingdom for as long as…
If you are like me you probably have been scratching your head trying to understand the result of the recent midterm election (November 4, 2014) in the USA. The American white people gave the Republican Party control of the two Houses of Congress (Senate and House of Representative). You ask: how could they do that; what good has Republicans ever done for white people other than promise them the impossible: not paying taxes (they always raise taxes when they come to power). As far as I can see, the little good in America was done by the Democratic Party: it…
Benjamin Aduba: One does not know what to make of this your write up. Clearly, it was written tongue in cheek. I failed to grasp the point you wanted to make. Instead of grappling with the double edged message you presented let me tell you how I feel about Obama and Democrats. I made the mistake of voting for Obama when I thought that he is a black man and probably had some unique insights into the race problem of America and would put them to the governance of America. He came to office and forgot that black folks overwhelmingly…

Addressing Leadership Challenges In Rural Alaska

Written by
Abstract Leaders are people who have the ability to discern what the group they are part of need and decide to help them meet those needs; they set goals pursuit of which help to accomplish the aspirations of group members. Some say that leadership skills are learned and others say that they are part of the individual’s psychological makeup. Whatever are its roots, what is empirical is that effective leaders quickly discern what needs to be done and go about helping to get them done. They have the ability to organize people to accomplish group goals. Group goals are accomplished…
I take a vacation once a year to the “Grand Ole Opry, the most prestigious shrine of country music in the greatest country on Earth. Now that I am retired and have more time to spare, I plan to go at least twice a year to the music city. I am just in love with America, her uniqueness as God’s own country and the varieties of tourist attractions she offers to the world. I have traveled around the world quite a bit. It is hard to find any other country in my esteem that comes anywhere close to America, all…
I watched this morning with total admiration the debate in the mother of Parliament, the British House of Commons. The session was requested by the British Prime Minister, David Cameron in the name, of her Majesty, the Queen of England who at close to 90 still looks as radiant as ever. Thank God the British has long moved away from the autocratic days of King Henry the VIII who had few of his wives beheaded just because he could. The British now has a ceremonial monarchy where the Queen as an allying symbol and the central glue that binds the…
What makes a great President in a great country like America is determined how the individual’s performance and policies in or out of office may have changed or impacted America for better or for worse and how the whole world and generations yet unborn may have benefitted from the individual’s leadership and vision. George Washington as father of the nation and pioneer President made the list by leading the American war of independence and by laying a solid foundation for America. President Jefferson did it by putting his imprimatur on the American Constitution which is now widely acknowledged as the…
It is hard not to feel nostalgic about the glamour and greatness of the United States as one amazing experiment in human history. She is without any doubt the greatest country on Earth and the only surviving super power. The Soviet Union which had been her closest rival has crashed under her own weight because of the inequities in her Communist System. Her central control system and lack of competition simply could not withstand or survive the resourcefulness and creative genius of the Capitalist System led by America. The Soviet Union should have known a long time ago she could…
Between 1789 and 2014 America has had 44 Presidents .We all can agree that those individuals are world leaders in their own right just by being lucky to have been President of the greatest country on Earth even for a short time like happened to William Henry Harrison in 1841, James Garfield in 1881, and John F Kennedy from 1961-1963. We must remember that America became the super power or the dominant nation ii is today thru the hard work and the leadership of those individuals. The home of the Brave and the land of freedom and opportunity actually obtained…

Massachusetts, My Massachusetts

Written by
This piece was inspired by Massachusetts Governor Patrick’s acceptance to house some of the young kids who entered US illegally without their parents. Some states have refused to house them but as is usual, Massachusetts has gone beyond the surface and seen these children as also the children of the living God. God will bless you Massachusetts. (See the article below) Massachusetts, My Massachusetts I love you Massachusetts, I love you. You have always been the leader of revolutions From you founding to date You have lived up to America’s expectations. It was you, Massachusetts that stood up to the…
Several years ago I wrote a serial article titled “The God-at-work factor in Obama’s emergence as the first black President. I did so because I for one did not believe Obama could come from nowhere to beat the close to 8 or nine white candidates competing with him. I was actually rooting for Hillary until Obama miraculously beat her to get the nomination. Obama went on to win the election in a landslide beating a war hero and a veteran and a former prisoner of war who I thought was a shoo-in for victory because of his track record and…
In my next life, if I ever have a choice in it, I am going to be an attorney. I never thought I would ever have to do another Trayvon Martin versus Zimmerman type of article before Governor Crist of Florida and the other Republican Governors across the country would have begin to have a rethinking on their penny-wise but pound-foolish obnoxious “Stand Your Ground Law” which has now become a license to shoot first and ask questions later as clearly proved by the Zimmerman versus Trayvon Martin trial and the most recent Michael Dunn versus Jordan Davis trial. I…

Money is not the root of all evils!

Written by
Those who call money the root of all evils have probably not considered the full ramifications of evil. I see money as only one among the other roots of all evils in Nigeria. As I watch wonder boy Steve Kornacki define for America the full implications and ramifications of the" Bridgegate" scandal in New Jersey. Governor Chris Christie who only a few months ago looked like a Napoleon and the best antidote Republicans could ever find to run against Hillary Clinton is so diminished today that he would be lucky if he is allowed to hold on to his governorship…

I Will Play the Race Card Any Day If I Need To

Written by
Republicans are ever so quick to criticize Barack Obama as playing the race card any time he has cause to talk about race. They enjoy quoting him out of context to make him look bad. I say they are wrong to do that because everybody plays the race card including the new Pope who never misses a chance to remind the world to re-examine their consciences like he just did to the world summit of businessmen taking place in Davos Switzerland. The Pope is plating the race card for the right reasons while the Republicans are playing it for the…
Republicans want the Health Care Reform baby pronounced dead on arrival because the umbilical cord is taking a moment too long to drop. In their convoluted minds, the baby has forfeited the right to live because what was supposed to happen within minutes of the baby’s arrival did not occur though the baby and the mother are doing fine and the doctor is still checking out the mother and the baby to avoid any residual problems. Same Republicans who had sworn to see the President fail had initially hoped their Republican-dominated Supreme Court was going to help them shoot down…
“On Thursday, Cheryl Campbell, a senior vice-president of the Canadian-firm CGI, which created the front-end portion of the website, said that overwhelming interest from consumers had triggered the website’s problems. No amount of testing within reasonable time limits can adequately replicate a live environment of this nature, MS Campbell said. But she also blamed administration officials, saying the health department should have served as the "quarterback" on the project and was the "ultimate responsible party for the end-to-end performance". BBC Website, October 24, 2013. The problem that folks are having signing up for the Affordable Care Act, the not working…
I said it before and I would say it again at the risk of repetition that the Republicans are in deep deep trouble in American Politics because of their refusal to clearly see the hand writing on the wall that this first black American President is here to stay. He is “the chosen one and the elect of God” just like the tiny State of Israel. To defeat or annihilate the only democratic country in the Middle East, her Muslim neighbors who can be called the Philistines for lack of a better word to describe them at this time, must…
This week both Gallop Polls and NBC Polls released the latest poll numbers for Barack Obama, the Democratic Party and The Republican Party and Congress. Guess what? Obama’s rating is going skywards. He is now at a level that he has not been at in quite some time. The Republicans are now down to 28 % approval level. The Democrats are doing well, thank you. Congress as a whole is in the dumps. Why is Obama’s approval going upwards? People expect their leaders to stand their grounds, to be tough, to not appear weak, to not give in to terrorists…
