Keep a bit of the ego and you keep all of it

Written by

WE ARE TEMPTED TO KEEP A BIT OF THE EGO BUT IF WE RETAIN A BIT OF IT WE RETAIN ALL OF IT

Ozodi Thomas Osuji

One is tempted to retain a little bit of ones ego and give up the rest of it; one is tempted to retain the aspect of the ego that one likes, such as its desire for power and importance; that is, one wants to seem important and powerful; the problem is that if you keep a little of it, the part of it that you like, you keep all of it, including the part that you do not like, for the ego is an all or nothing thing. You either see the world from the ego or you don't.

You either keep fear and anger (ego) or you don't (see the world with forgiveness hence love).

THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF LOOKING AT THE WORLD, THE EGO OR THE HOLY SPIRIT; THEY ARE EITHER OR

You can see with the eyes of the ego or the eyes of the Holy Spirit. The ego is how each of us adapts to the world of egos; the ego is the way we normally relate to other egos.

If you choose to not be an ego you relate to other people differently.

IF YOU GIVE UP THE EGO ENTIRELY YOU WOULD BE IN GOD AND LIKE GOD YOU WOULD NOT SEE THE WORLD OF SEPARATION

If you give up the ego entirely you would not see you in body and would not see other people in bodies; you would be back in God, formless self and would not know that this world exists.

SEEING WITH PURIFIED EGO, THE HOLY SPIRIT

If you purify your ego, that is, see through the eyes of the Holy Spirit you still see this world, still see people in bodies and see what they are doing; you know why they are doing what they are doing; they want to seem separated from each other; they want to make their egos seem real, make separation seem real.

Separation cannot be real so people seeing with ego eyes are deluded; thus, you know that they are deluded; they are even more deluded if they want to make their egos seem powerful and important for that which is not real and does not exist but seem to exist in a dream cannot be important and powerful except in the dream; dream power and importance is no power and importance.

If you see people from the eyes of the Holy Spirit dancing their ego dances you overlook their dances and love the Christ, the son of God in them.

By loving their real selves you make them feel peaceful; they are trying to obtain love through their ego dances and since ego is attack on union they only obtain conflict and war; you give them your peace by overlooking their ego and by loving the son of God in them.

Looking with the eyes of the Holy Spirit you see dream figures trying to seem real; you know that you are seeing hallucination and delusion for what you are seeing is not there but seem there. Your mind is not mad but you see mad people (the Holy Spirit is not mad yet he sees our mad world but overlooks it to love our real selves, the son of God).

WHERE ARE YOU IN A VISION EXPERIENCE?

In vision your consciousness shifts and you are in a different place and have the vision experience and then your consciousness returns to your normal state on earth. So, where were you during the vision experience, in your normal body and location or in the vision body and place?

You were in neither; you are in unified spirit and project yourself to existence in body;  the ego-body is more lasting for it is shared by all people; the vision experience is fleeting for it is not shared with other people.

Upon death you project yourself to the world of light forms, which is also unreal. You dance these dances until you awaken in the non-dream state of formless unified state, heaven.

WHEN YOU SEE WITH THE EYES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT YOU ARE RELATIVELY CALM AND HAPPY

When you see with the eyes of the Holy Spirit and know that the world is a hallucination and know that to believe it as real is to be deluded you don't take the world seriously and therefore it does not bother you. Thus you are in peace and joy; not the perfect peace of unified state but the relative peace that we can obtain on earth.

IN EGO WE ARE IN CONFLICT AND WAR

In ego we are in total conflict and war, and have no peace. In the Holy Spirit we eliminate our conflict and war; so, which state do you prefer to be in: conflict (ego) or peace (love)? You choose and as you choose you behave differently and obtain the appropriate results to your choice; there are no accidents in our lives; you get the outcome of your choice, ego or Christ/Holy Spirit.

HOLY SPIRIT IS WHOLE SPIRIT

EGO IS SEPARATED SPIRIT

Religious terms are really metaphors for what we know in secular language. Consider Alfred Adler's cure for neurosis. He pointed out that the neurotic is motivated by self-centered thinking and behavior; the neurotic pursues only what is good for him but not what is good for other people; he wants to seem superior to other people; this is a compensation for his underlying sense of inferiority; he seeks being the best in everything he does and seeks success at the expense of other people.

Adler's individual psychology says that the neurotic is cured when he works for our common social interests, for our common public good not just for what is good for him.

Now, how is Adler different from religious folks saying that one should allow the Holy Spirit to guide one? The Holy Spirit is metaphor for whole spirit.

The ego is metaphor for separated self, the partial spirit whereas the Holy Spirit is the whole, entire spirit.

The whole spirit knows what is good for one and for all people; he knows the past, present and future whereas the ego does not know the entire past, present and future; the ego has partial and limited information on any subject whereas the Holy Spirit has vast and infinite information on all subjects for it is the whole universe personalized.

Letting the Holy Spirit to guide you is letting the whole universe to guide you, letting the accumulated information in the whole humanity to inform your thinking and behavior.

Left alone, the individual has only partial information on anything and really does not know what is good for him and other people.

The Holy Spirit has the whole information and as such knows what is good for one and all people hence his guidance is wise for one.

THE EGO IS ONE MISTAKE, THE MISTAKE THAT SEPARATED EXISTENCE IS POSSIBLE, A MISTAKE GIVEN MANY SHAPES IN DIFFERENT PEOPLE

One mistake, the desire that separation is possible led the son of God, a part of the whole to seem separated from the whole. That one mistake has taken many forms in different people, all of them making one mistake, desiring separation but doing so in different thinking and behaving patterns.

ONE MISTAKE WITH ONE SOLUTION: RETURN FROM SEPARATION TO UNION

We made one mistake, separation from the whole, aka God; we have one solution for our mistake:  return to union, return to God.

The solution to all of our different personalities, ego types and their issues is letting go of the desire for separation and having no ego; that is, reverting to unified self, God.

If we are not yet ready to extinguish the ego, give up separation then we should allow the Holy Spirit to guide us.

There are seven billion people on earth, each of them made one mistake, a mistake manifested in his personality type.  They all have one cure for their mistakes: return to the whole spirit, return to God (God is metaphor for whole spirit); return to love for God is love.

CONCLUSION

Before you do anything, before you embark on any journey pause. Close your eyes to shut out the noise of the world that distracts your attention. Ask yourself this question: am I doing what I am doing out of the ego or the Holy Spirit?

Put differently, is my action and intentions informed by desire for self-interests only or by what are good for all people?

Answer that question as honestly as is possible. If you believe that what you are doing serves public good you are guided by the Holy Spirit but if it serves only your good you are guided by the ego.

You will know who guides you by how you feel. If you feel peaceful and happy you are guided by the Holy Spirit but if you feel conflicted and unhappy you are guided by the ego.

Are you generally peaceful and happy or at war with yourself and the world?

PS: Most Igbos that I know of are at war with themselves and with their neighbors; therefore, they are guided by their egos (aka Devil, Satan), not by the Holy Spirit (aka love, God). Many mental health professionals, psychologists and psychiatrists, say that Africans are concrete and seem incapable of abstract thinking. Give the above essay to a typical white person or Asian and he would understand it for it is an exercise in abstraction; give it to an African and he would be lost for his capacity for abstract thinking seems impaired.  Either way, I am done. Cheers.
