Mental Disorder Results From Desire To Become More Powerful Than God

Written by

This essay pointed out that we have one problem and one problem only (the others are mere details), our belief that we have separated selves. We constructed separated selves that are so powerful that they replace the self that God created us as, Christ, his holy son who is one with him and all his brothers.  We are pursuing big selves, and as long as we do so we are mentally ill. When we jettison the big self and embrace the humble self, the real son of God who acknowledges that his father created him and asks his father to guide him we return to mental health.

Mental Disorder Results From Desire To Become More Powerful Than God

Ozodi Thomas Osuji

If it is correct that mental disorders result from desire to become more powerful than God, the question is: what are you going to do about it? The answer is that one must stop trying to be more powerful than God; one must accept that God is more powerful than one and allow God to guide one rather than trying to guide one’s self for by ones ego self-one does not know what is good for one or for anyone else.

If you go to typical psychiatric hospitals the chances are that you would see some of the inmates calling themselves God (and depending on their religions, such names as Jesus Christ, Buddha or Krishna; and if they do not belong to religions they call themselves names derived from secular powerful people such as Napoleon etc.).  The insane person wants to be powerful and latches unto any symbol of power that his world gives to him and ultimately latches to God, the most powerful person in the human conception of power.

So what is wrong with this behavior? Why shouldn’t people desire to be powerful seeing that power is what it takes to master the physical environment, an environment that does not seem to give a damn whether people survived or not. The environment is impersonal and does not seem to care about animals (people included) and trees and destroys them whenever it wants to do so. Earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, droughts, diseases from bacteria, virus, fungi etc. kill people as if they are nothing so it makes perfect sense for people to struggle to seem powerful so as to be able to master their environment, and do what they have to do to survive. Why is it wrong to want to seem powerful if power is necessary for human survival?  Good question.

The problem is that the insane person not only wants to be powerful he wants to be the most powerful person in the universe; he not only thinks that he is God he wants to be more powerful than God, Jesus Christ, Buddha, Krishna etc.

Normal persons accept that God is their Lord; that is, that God is more powerful than they are and pray to him to give to them what they want out of life. Normal persons subordinate their wills to the will of God (as they understand it to be) and accept leadership and direction from God.

Insane persons do not subordinate their wills to God (as they understand him to be); they want to surpass God; they want to be greater than God. They literally want to chase God out of his creator (power) throne, usurp it and become the creator of the universe; in the here and now they want to become the most powerful person on earth; they do not subordinate their egos (wishes) to other people’s egos. They want to have the most power on earth; they want the greatest amount of riches on earth.

The three main psychoses are schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder (manic-depression) and delusion disorder.  In all three there are delusions (belief in what is not true as true) but in one (delusion disorder) there is no hallucination. There is always hallucination in schizophrenia (and sometimes in mania).

The delusions of psychotic persons are generally bizarre (such as claiming to be god and seeing other people as not god; claiming to be the richest man on earth and seeing other people as poor).

All human beings have minor delusions but the psychotic has bizarre delusions (that do not make sense to those around him).

THE MYSTIC VERSUS THE PSYCHOTIC

If you look at the mystic casually you could say that he is like the psychotic but when you look more closely you would see profound difference between them. The mystic says that he is God; he also says that every person around him, indeed all animals and trees, everything is God. The mystic says that we are all God (properly put, we are all extensions of God).In effect, the mystic is not latching onto the idea of God to make him a superior person and make other persons, those not god, inferior to him. To the mystic we are all the same and equal for we are all parts of one magnificent God.

The insane person, on the other hand, says that he is God but that other people, animals and trees are not God.  The mystic shares his God claim whereas the madman hugs his claim of God and does not share it. In truth, God is our shared self, so if you do not see other people as God and claim to be God you have negated the shared nature of God;  you have become selfish and not the God that shares his self with all his creation.

The mystic is obviously correct in seeing his real self and every person’s real-self as God for it is God that created everything and everything is part of their creator, God. One God extends his oneself to infinite selves (us); everything we see, in their essence, not distortion, is extension of God.

Mental disorder results when the individual wishes to chase God out of his throne as the creator of the universe and replace God, usurp God’s power and become the creator of everything, his self-included.

Mental disorder results from the quest for power, the desire to become the number one power in the universe.   Mental disorder results from how one answers the authority question: who created you, you or God? If you said that you created you, you are mentally ill; if you said that God created you hence more powerful than you then you are sane.

God (the whole) produced the part (you); the part, you, cannot produce the whole (God).

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, so even if you add up all of us, creation God is still greater than us.

Yet the whole and the part are the same; God and his creations (us) are the same. Be the creator and created the same, as we are, yet God is greater than his creation, us, for he created us and we did not create him; we are his manifestations and he is not our manifestation.

WHY THE MATERIAL UNIVERSE CAME INTO BEING: THE SON WANTS TO BE GREATER THAN HIS FATHER

The physical universe came into being when the son of God decided to compete with his father for power. God created him and he now decided to create God and create his self. In spiritual reality once created by God one cannot create God or one’s self. Thus, the son of God cannot create God or create his self. Unable to create God and his self the son of God, as it were, closed his spiritual eyes and went to sleep and in his sleep dream a universe where he created everything, created God and created his self. He dreamed a universe of space, time, energy and matter, our physical universe. That physical universe now seem separated from the spiritual universe created by God; in the material universe the son of God is now God, he is now more powerful than God.

We invented space, time, energy and matter and used them to invent bodies for ourselves and now seeming to live in bodies we seem separated from our father and in our new abode invented self-concepts for us, the ego self-concepts.

The ego is the symbol of our wish for power that replaces the power of God. Our main problem is our belief that we have a self that God did not create, the ego.  As long as one sees one’s self as an ego one has, in religious language sinned (in my language, has made a mistake, is in error).

Our material universe is a representation of our wish for more power than our creator’s power. The material universe is a product of our rebellion against God’s power. In the material universe our wishes (for separation and special egos) is done and the will of God (God wills our union with him and with each other, love) is defeated.

The physical universe is the opposite of the will of God. God wills union and we wish separation (and see it in our universe); God wills perfect love (we wish hate and see it in our world).

Our world is the opposite of heaven (and it’s God).  Our world is a place where the son (and sons) of God come to seem to actualize their wishes for power greater than God’s power.

No Power is greater than God’s power. Our world therefore could only manifest illusions of power, not real power. The world of space, time, energy and matter we see is a world of illusions. In fact, the material world does not exist except as in a dream. What exists in a dream does not exist when the dreamer wakes up (in spirit, in God). Our material world does not exist and has not existed for a second; it is mere illusion, or if you like, it has dream existence.

Our material world is a representation of the delusion of power of the son of God. To see our world is literally to see a world that is not there.

We are also hallucinating for we are seeing a world that is not there. Thus, we meet the criteria for psychoses: delusion and hallucinations. To be on earth is to be psychotic, to believe what is not true as true and to see what is not there as there. We see a world of matter, energy, time and space, a world of forms that is not there; the real world, the world that God created is formless.

THE MATERIAL UNIVERSE IS A MISCREATION OF GOD’S CREATION

God created his children as formless parts of him but we miscreated ourselves into forms that are separated from God and from each other. The material universe was miscreated by the sons of God.

Please note the word miscreated. This means that we used the creative power of God, which he gave us, to create not as he creates but as we want to create. God creates what is united with him, extension of him. He created us as extensions of him; we remain parts of him, never separated from him.

When we miscreate we project our creations out and see them as not part of us. Thus, we invented space, time, energy and matter and used those to miscreate stars, galaxies, planets, animals, trees, in short our material universe that seem outside of us.

God created what is part of him. God created light and is light; light is part of God. But we miscreated light and now see light as outside us, as emanating from stars etc.  But in fact we are light.

Are we light? Are you in doubt? Okay, think about your body. What is your body made of? It is made of atoms. What are atoms made of? They are made of electrons, protons and neutrons. What is electron made of? It is made of photons (of light); what are protons and neutrons made of? They are made of quarks. What are quarks made of….they are made of photons, light.

Everything in the material universe is made of light (is, if you like, congealed light, masked light). Everything in the universe is still light, the light of God is now transmuted into matter, energy, space and time so that we do not see them as light. We transformed God’s light to the solids, gases, and liquids and plasma we see in our material universe (but they still remain light).

Where we see dense matter is light albeit hidden, masked and veiled light; if you have spiritual seeing you will see light where hitherto you saw peoples bodies, animals bodies, trees, land, mountains, planets, stars and galaxies.

The son of God, as it were, went to sleep and in his sleep used his father’s creations in a distorted form to miscreate the materiel universe we see.  The material universe is an illusion; it does not exist except as in a dream and when we wake up from this dream of self- forgetfulness we experience the world of light crated by God. This is literal not figurative.

In meditation, if you tune out the world of separated things (space, time, energy and matter) we live in you would escape from it and experience the universe of light created by God. That universe of light (union and love) is the only universe there is; we are in it for we cannot leave. While in God’s light, we sleep and dream other universes.

We dream infinite universes, our present one being one of them…the concept of parallel universes or multiverses recognizes that there are infinite universes of which ours is one of them…when we separated during the so-called Big Bang we produced infinite universes and folks dream in any of those universes and will continue migrating from one to another until they get tired of dreaming and return, awaken, to the universe of light, God.

MULTIVERSES ARE IN OPPOSITION TO THE WILL OF GOD

The multiverse represents our opposition to the will of God. In reality no one can oppose the will of God; we can, however, have wish and since our minds are the same as God’s mind, our wishes are powerful, we can wish for separation, wish to live in other universes and what we wish is granted us in the various universes.  We use our God’s mind miscreatively to produce dream universes where we see ourselves and defend them and take them as real.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

God does not prevent his children, us, from dreaming that they are separate from him; indeed, he entered our dreams as the Holy Spirit and stays in the background and when we call on him he makes our dreams happy instead of nightmarish; when we love one another and forgive one another our wrongs we experience happy dreams and as it were are at the gate of heaven and when all of us get there God opens his heaven’s gate and let us in and we know that even when we slept and dreamed this universe and other universes we were always in heaven, always in union with God.

Our universe is a product of opposition to the will of God; is a wish to be different from the way God created us. Our universe and current selves (ego separated selves housed in bodies) exist in opposition to the will of God.  Our present selves are selves that want to be greater than God.

No one can be greater than his creator hence those who fancy themselves as greater than God are deluded, insane, psychotic.

Be that as it may, if while in the dream of separation you vaguely remember God and accept him as your creator then you become vaguely sane (not completely sane for if you are completely sane you would not see yourself in body and in this world).

Normal persons accept that God created them (in form) and pray to him; neurotics and psychotics want to completely chase God out of their lives and become more than God. Because normal persons acknowledge God, albeit in attenuated form they are somewhat sane (but not completely sane for if they were sane they would not see themselves in form; God and his sons are formless and no one who is sane sees them in forms; as long as you see you and other people in forms, in bodies you are insane, you are seeing people who are not there; if you see people as parts of you and love them you are somewhat sane).

Insanity is a result of chasing God out of one’s life and replacing him with the self-one made for one’s self, the ego separated self-concept.  The absence of God in one’s mind is the cause of insanity.

PSYCHIATRY MIGHTILY STRUGGLED TO REMOVE GOD FROM ITS CAUSAL ANALYSIS OF MENTAL DISORDERS ONLY TO FAIL!

Thus, we come back to where we began. Secular psychiatrists tell us that primitive people used to think that there are demons and that mental illness is caused by demons taking possession of people’s minds. They made fun of such, as they said, superstitious views of the etiology of mental disorders. To them social variables and or brain biochemical imbalances caused mental disorders. To them, we are pure animals and if there is something wrong with the configuration of matter and energy (atoms, particles) in our brains we become crazy. So give the insane medications if you want to heal them. Alas, so far no medication heals the mentally ill.

Medications and secular psychotherapy does not heal mental disorders because mental disorders are rooted in the replacement of God in our minds with the ego. If the ego is seen as the demon the mentally ill have demons in their minds; that is, they have used their egos to chase out Christ (their real-self) and its creator, God. To be healed they must jettison the ego separated self-concept, give up allegiance to the ego and return to their real selves, the Christ and their creator, God.

Secular healers designed psychotherapies to help people get along with other people and now invented medications to correct the chemical imbalances in people’s brains. None of their efforts heal the mentally ill. Of course they must continue in their efforts but the fact is that mental disorder emanates from our efforts to chase God out of our lives and replace him with our self-made ego. Mental illness is healed when we let go of our self-made egos and accept the selves God created us as, Christ. Christ is the true children of God who are like him (and who do not oppose God’s will; since they are parts of God to oppose God’s will is to oppose their will, oppose reality).

Is God angry at us for opposing his will? No. How can he be angry at us who are parts of him? To be angry at us is to be angry at him. Only an insane person is angry at himself.

God is perfect freedom and allows his children to have his perfect freedom. He allows us to dream our various universes. As noted, he entered the various universes his sons mistreated as the Holy Spirit and stays in the back of their minds and if they call on him to guide them he does so, but if not he does not intrude into their lives.

God allows us to be in our world and if while in it we ask him to guide us he does so. He guides us to love one another and forgive one another for we are literally one self and one mind.  But if we choose to seem separated and attack and harm each other he allows us to do so for the knows that they are dream attacks and that although in the dreams our bodies are harmed but since in reality we are only light no one is harmed.

MAKE DECISIONS THAT ARE GUIDED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, LOVE

You are free to do your wishes and obtain consequent results. If you want to be an ego and work for ego power and wealth God will not stop you from doing so (hence American egos become rich and empty). On the other hand, if you want to be guided by the will of God then do not make any decision by yourself; ask the Holy Spirit (love and forgiveness) to guide all your thinking and behavior.

Not my will but God’s will should be done, what Jesus learned and in obeying the will of God became the Christ (allowed his seeming physical body to be crucified so that his spirit self, Christ now lives in him).

If you wish to live like Christ, before you do anything pause and ask the Holy Spirit, aka Christ to guide you (the Holy Spirit is the symbol of God and since God and your real self, Christ, is one, the Holy Spirit is also the symbol of Christ, the symbol of your real self, so when you obey him you are merely obeying your real self, your real will, not the deluded wishes of the false self, the ego).

When you get up in the morning pray thus: God, Holy Spirit, Christ guide my day; lead me to wherever I need to be to do your will; and wherever I find myself during the day help me to do your will; your will is love and forgiveness, so help me to love all people and forgive all people.

Ask for your higher self, your real self, the Christ, the Holy Spirit and God to infuse your decisions and judgment with love and forgiveness and you would be so guided. When you are so guided you would live in peace and joy, for you are doing your real will and your father’s will.

If you are experiencing lack of peace, conflict, know that you are not living your will, not living God’s will. Peace and joy are the symptoms of living from God’s will, from your will.

Our world emanated from rejection of what is and postulation of what should be, what we want to be; what should be is ideational, is in the mind and not real and can only be perfect in the mind; in the world of matter it becomes imperfect. Therefore, it is really useless positing what should be; you have to work with what is, imperfect as it may be. The positing of what should be is rooted in the desire to replace what is with one’s creation, one idea of what should be; that is, it is rooted in the quest for ego power.

DISCUSSION

For many years I worked with the mentally ill; I endeavored to apply to them what folks learn in secular universities (psychology and psychiatry) about the nature of mental illness and how to heal them). I found to my dismay, as all therapists eventually find out, that secular psychotherapy, talk or medications, do not heal mental illness (at best they manage them).  I looked for alternatives to extant therapeutic approaches to mental disorders.

I learned that our problem is one: we believe that we are separated from God, from our source, from our real self (Christ) and that we are housed in bodies and live in the world of matter, energy, space and time. Separation is our only problem. The solution to it is return to union.

Our true self is unified with God and his creation.  Separation from God is the cause of mental disorders. Healing of all mental disorders requires us to let go of the separated selves we invented to adapt to the separated world and embrace our real self, the unified self, the Christ self, the holy son of God.

I understand whatever extant psychiatric says about schizophrenia, mania, depression, delusion, anxiety disorders, personality disorders and other mental disorders; I understand extant psychiatry perhaps like very few human beings do.  I also understand one other thing: scientific endeavors do not heal these mental disorders, for science is predicted on the premise that people are animals and that just like other animals their bodies can be sick and all we need to do is heal them with good nutrition and medications hence if they are mentally ill their brains are out of whack so heal them with medications and supportive psychotherapy. Well, twenty five years of doing that sort of things taught me that it does not work.

The premise of science is wrong. Man is a spiritual being (that sees himself in body).  Man is sick because he believes that he is separated from his real self, his unified self, spirit. He is healed when he lets go of the false self he constructed to replace his real self and embraces his real self.

When we let go of the ego and return to Christ, as Jesus did, we are healed. If we are not yet ready for total healing we can remain in the world and live as egos in bodies but ask the Holy Spirit, Christ to guide us. If we are guided by Christ and the Holy Spirit we are guided towards doing what unifies all of us as one self and in seeking union with all we attain attenuated mental health.

As long as we live in bodies and in this world we cannot attain perfect mental health for body is a means of separation (although it can be used to love).  We can only attain full mental health in formless spirit (where we always are while dreaming that we are in bodies).

On earth all we can do is allow the Holy Spirit to guide us and we attain a measure of mental health (normal persons already do so).

For the psychotic this means stopping seeking of big ego selves, power, wealth and all the other things sought by the psychotic; it means letting go of all ego goals and embracing a humble self, a self-guided by love and forgiveness.

How this is to be accomplished is a matter for a different paper. In this paper the salient point is that when we live from ego big selves we are mentally ill and when we live from humble ego unified selves we are somewhat mentally healthy and when we live from egoless Christ self we are mentally healthy.  The ego is our one and only problem.

If you are skeptical cynical (as I was)you could ask: are there examples of folks who were mentally ill, even normal, who have let go of their separated ego selves and returned to living from the Unified Christ self hence are mentally healed that we can see.  Good question.

My response to your question is to ask you to heal yourself and not worry about others healing. Struggle to let go of your swollen egotism and live from love and forgiveness and see if you can occasionally experience oneness (what A course in miracles aptly called Holy Instance, experience of heaven while still in the world of space, time and matter). Save yourself and do not worry about saving others (the ego wants to save others, which it cannot do; one can only save one’s self with the aid of the Holy spirit).

CONCLUSION

This essay pointed out that we have one problem and one problem only (the others are mere details), our belief that we have separated selves. We constructed separated selves that are so powerful that they replace the self that God created us as, Christ, his holy son who is one with him and all his brothers.  We are pursuing big selves, and as long as we do so we are mentally ill. When we jettison the big self and embrace the humble self, the real son of God who acknowledges that his father created him and asks his father to guide him we return to mental health.

There are two levels of mental health, the attenuated form of it found in normal folks who acknowledge God as their creator and love all their brothers, and the perfect form of it found in those who have left this world of space, time and matter and energy and live in formless spirit with their father and his creations.

Our immediate goal is to attain attenuated mental health for those still living in bodies, on earth, that is, to still live in egos in bodies but have those guided by love and forgiveness, aka Holy Spirit, Christ, God.

·         At the moment folks see themselves as egos in bodies living in the world of space, time, energy and matter; as bodies they need food, medications, clothes and shelter. Therefore, treat the mentally ill with medications.  However, I suggest that we add the insights of this paper to the treatment of the mentally ill; doing so would yield better results.
