Psychology

This essay points out that fear alerts animals, human beings included to possible danger to their lives and force them to do what protects their lives in bodies. Without fear people will not survive the dangers that exist everywhere in their environment.  If people were not fearful they would not be able to take actions to protect themselves and would die out.  If people exist without fear it has to be in a different form, perhaps in a non-material form. Religions say that at root people are formless spirit; perhaps, in that mode of existence people would not have fear.…
(Who is responsible for the killing of folks by James Eagen Holmes?) The Dangers Of Reducing All Human Behavior To Biological Causation Ozodi Osuji, PhD It is reported that James Eagen Holmes, the graduate student who murdered twelve people and wounded over 59 others at an Aurora, Colorado Movie theater was studying neuroscience and that he recently made a presentation on the Biological Basis of Psychiatric and Neurological disorders to a class he was taking. Psychologists and psychiatrists are perceived by their colleagues in the physical sciences as not true scientists. Because of this disrespect they are struggling mightily hard…
I am the person who exists, breathes, acts and responds when no one is watching or when there is someone in my presence who I feel cannot harm me.  Whether the person is too small, too young, an outcast, or someone from whom I have taken power, how I comport myself around them is actually the real me.  When I  walk out of church and people have complimented my speaking or my shouting or my dance of praise and I start to hurriedly run to my car in order to avoid some poor soul who is on the busline.  I…
In his Public Broadcasting Corporation PBS programming show "Faces of America," Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. normally presents the triumphs and resiliencies of our genealogical ancestors. However, another side of that same coin that is much less discussed is that of the introspective legacy of mental health disorders. The transitions from old nations to new nations are accompanied by other demanding stressors such as the need to survive, integrate, assimilate, and/or acculturate. These demands are more strident when one contextualizes the scenarios by which some of our forefathers arrived in the United States and the manmade and environmental harshness that…
http://www.lavondastaples.com/2012/06/friday-affirmation-affirming-power-of.html Do what you want. Say what you will. It won't matter because I'm coming. I will arrive. I am a force of nature. Sometimes destructive and sometimes bringing much needed relief. Just as the rain eases the pressure of the clouds and helps to feed billions, I have something to offer and I don't even know or understand how it came to reside within me. I am a force of nature struggling to find my own release. Like the earthquake causing tectonic plates to slide and adjust. Like the river bursting over the man-made obstacles. Damn! Worry. Because I'm…
This essay delineates the nature of mental health; it says that to be mentally healthy is to accept who one knows one’s self to be in fact, not who one wants to become.  It says that people often reject their real selves and seek becoming idealized others. It says that ideals are generally derived from misconception of what extant society value and from desire to escape from problematic biological constitutions.  Whatever is the origin of self-rejection, the individual must accept who he is without reference to what other people would accept? Self Acceptance Is The Natural State Of Human Beings;…
Fact: in our brains, thinking is done through electrons (which are packets of light energy).  Thoughts and ideas and feelings are coded into electrons (inside the atoms in our brains) and subsequently circulate in our brains and bodies. Some of them eventually leave our bodies as parts of the air we breathe out or that leaves our bodies through our skins. Our thoughts are coded in electrons, light and leave our bodies; they interact with the electrons, light and other elements around us and affect them and are affected by them. This way our thoughts and feelings coded in electrons…
Some children are born in bodies that are prone to inordinate pain (due to some inherited medical disorder in all the cells in their bodies). They feel pained and do not want to be pained. They want to escape from this extraordinary pain. They cannot do so realistically so they try to do so mentally. They use their imagination to construct alternative selves that are pain free, ideal, powerful and superior self. In clothes and shoes such children’s bodies feel pained and constricted and cry out to be released from those constricting and pain making contraptions of so-called civilization. The…

Psychology Is Secondary To Biology

Written by
There are biological issues that lead the individual to think in a manner that is problematic, a manner judged to be disordered. Physical pain, for example, could make a person to reject his body and desire an idealized body and self. The desire for idealized self becomes a secondary psychological process that is problematic since no person can ever become ideal and perfect. Moreover, pursuit of the ideal perfect self leads to fear of not attaining it hence anxiety disorder. Psychiatry focuses on the individual’s problematic thinking and ignores the underlying biological causation of it. And when psychiatry talks about…
