It will take Africans a hundred years to catch up with the West

AFRICANS HAVE ANOTHER ONE HUNDRED YEARS BEFORE THEY ENTER THE MODERN WORLD

Ozodi Osuji

If you look at people closely you find that they are the same; however, their cultures differ. Western European and African cultures are different.

Western culture is infused with science and technology and is modern whereas African cultures are not infused with science and technology; if we equate modernity with science and technology, since African cultures lack those then it follows that African cultures are primitive.

The question is how do we get Africans to become scientific and technological? We cannot force it; only time will do it for us. It will take, at least, another one hundred years before African countries come close to operating at scientific and technological level.

In Nigeria, for example, until 1948 there were no universities; now universities are sprouting up everywhere. That is the way it should be. Nigeria should have, at least, five hundred universities. The same process is taking place in other African countries.

Nigeria and other African countries shall reach a point where every Nigerian and African who wants to go to university can do so. At any point in time, a third of the human population, 33% have the mental ability to go to universities; the rest ought to go to technical schools and learn how to fix things.

This means that around the middle of this twenty first century there will be a pool of university and technology educated Africans.

It does not mean that they are going to be good, for the quality of African universities is not going to be as good as those in the west during the next one hundred years. Before the Second World War American universities were considered inferior to Western European universities but today they are the best.

The quality of African universities and their graduates should not bother us; just build universities and technical schools everywhere in Africa and let every African who has the ability to go to school go to school even if the education he obtains is shoddy.

In about a hundred years' time African universities would be old enough and would have developed their own traditions, ways of doing things, that they would start productizing well educated people. A real middle class group of Africans will emerge around 2100 AD.

Corruption will take some time before it is eradicated from Africa. It might take all of the twenty first century for corruption to be controlled in Africa.

No country is totally free of corruption but if it can be limited to less than five percent of the population of a country it will not adversely affect it; it is where corruption is found in most of people that it negatively affects the country (I bet you that over 90% of Nigerians are corrupt!).

All said it will take about one hundred years before Africa reaches modernity (by that I mean reach scientific culture). The twenty second century will see Africa finally enter the modern world.

For contemporary Africans they have to bite their tongues and accept their people's backwardness and do what they have to do to bring Africa up to snuff. What they must not do is deny their backwardness and try seeming as developed as Europe.

I am talking about the nonsense written by Afro -centrists like Chiak Anta Diop, Chancellor Williams and Molife Ashanti to the effect that Africa had a glorious past and cite ancient Egypt as evidence. Ancient Egypt obviously was in Africa but that does not help Africans deal with the reality that today Africans are drinking from germs infested waters from streams and are technologically backward relative to the West and Asia.

Making empty claims that make you feel proud is not the same thing as doing world class physics, chemistry and biology. Until Africans have world class universities and produce Nobel Prize winners in the sciences all the talk of how good Africa is, is exercise in infantile narcissism.

THE WHITE MAN CONTROLS AMERICA AND EUROPE; AFRICANS HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT PRESENT REALITY AND NOT PRETEND THAT THEY HAVE POWER

At present white men are in power and control who gets what, when and why in America and Europe. They give Africans jobs if they believe that they are useful to them, and if not they keep them out. Generally, they give Africans and black folks of second rate caliber jobs for they do not want smart Africans and black folks around them.

For example, in seeking to make a black man the president of America they selected an idiot black man called Barack Obama and made him president; they would not select from the many smart black folks all over America for such a position. They give black idiots jobs and those do mediocre jobs and this enables them to tell themselves that black folks are unintelligent.

The African must accept this reality and not deny it. What he needs to do is to cool headedly establish alternatives to the white man's ways of doing things.

Africans must establish a new religion and culture. This is because the white man's Christian religion and Arabs Muslim religion are bankrupt and need to be replaced with a more rational religion.

The reign of the beast is coming to an end; there must be an alternative to the beast and his ways. Africans must develop a culture based on the scientific method, what I call the scientific culture and a scientific religion to replace the nonsense that Europeans and Arabs gave to them.
